Monte de los Almendros is the most popular residential area on the hillside overlooking Salobreña and many people would say also say that it is the best. Generally very well looked after by the community of owners and with it’s own water supply, recreation area with tennis court and open all year swimming pools, a quick look around this urbanisation will reveal why it is so highly regarded.

Most of the 450+ plots do now have houses on them and many of the still vacant plots belong to the owners of the neighbouring villas who have no intention of building on them. Way back in the late 1960’s the original developer, Perez Lopez, started selling plots and finished houses here and this far sighted local entrepreneur introduced many people from all over Europe and even from as far away as the USA and Canada despite what in those days was quite an adventurous journey to travel to the area. Nowadays it is truly cosmopolitan here with owners from more than 20 different countries although there are still more Spanish owners than any other nationality.

One of the attractions of “The Monte” is the abundance of flowers and greenery everywhere partly due to the green zones that are reserved throughout the urbanisation and also due to most houses having their own mature gardens. The mature palms, bougainvilleas, and other subtropical shrubs and trees have transformed what was a more or less barren hillside 40 years ago into a feast of colour and a haven for birds and other wildlife. Then there are the extensive views including the snow-capped peaks of mainland Spain’s highest mountains and Salobreña itself with the castle perched on the rocky outcrop emerging from the coastal plain below and of course there is the nearby Mediterranean sea just below.

The community of owners has it’s own website at www.montedelosalmendros.com where photos and other information can be seen and for more information you can see our website www.lingwoodsalobrena.com/montedelosalmendros.htm or contact us directly at www.LingwoodSalobrena.com where long term Monte residents Mike and Margaret Lingwood and their partner James Thomas run the local estate agency at the entrance of Monte de los Almendros in the original Perez Lopez sales office where they specialise in the sale of villas on Monte de los Almendros.
