La Rabita has a very deep-rooted history that can be traced back to the nazari dynasty. The town of La Rabita was a strategically important Costa Tropical town that played a crucial role in defending the Andalucian coastline. The castle of Ribat was constructed here to provide defensive capabilities to this town as well as the coast and hence the name of the town has come to be known as Rabita. This was one of the strongest castles in Spain and was equipped with cannons for marine defense and watchtowers that kept a close look for any enemies.

The town is nestled among the rocky cliffs and creeks of the Costa Tropical and is popular for its beautiful and enchanting beach. It is a seemingly a quiet Spanish town but in the peak season has a multi national feel as people from all over Europe come to enjoy the beautiful and clear waters of the Mediterranean the many traditional restaurants and the good selection of pastimes.

There are different types of activities available in La Rabita but the most popular are the various water sports including diving to sailing.
The La Rabita beach is one of the most famous beaches on the Costa Tropical and is a mixture of white & gray sand and pebbles. It is un-crowded and the tranquil setting makes it a perfect destination for any beach lover.
There is a good selection of hotels and resorts along the beachfront. The beach is 570m long and 28m wide. There is a separate play area on the beach for children.

Tapas bars and restaurants dominate the nightlife in La Rabita. You will find some of the top Andalucian cuisines and a good selection of inter-continental food on the menu. Bars offer traditional Spanish or Andalucian music and sometimes live jazz or any other more obscure genres of music.
La Rabita enjoys the perfect sub-tropical weather where the sun shines for almost 325 days a year. The overall weather is pleasant. In the summer, the daytime temperature is high and hovers around 26c but is cooler in the night with the nice cool breeze flowing in from the sea. The winter temperature hovers around 15c and lasts from October to February.
