Blog 2, revenge of the blog!
Hello all,
Right, where to begin? We used to do the usual trips backwards and forwards to Espana, once or twice a year. Luckily we have friends that have a very nice villa near the town of Turre, about half an hour or so from Almeria airport.
Spending days sitting by the poolside, reading books in the sunshine. (How come it's so much easier to read by the pool with a J.D and coke beside you?) Ali said in passing one day " You know, I really want to retire out here", "Yeah" I replied, vaguely. Not because I was dis-interested, but because the cogs were already whirring, albeit a rusty, screehing type of whirring, but whirring nontheless.
I didn't want to wait 18/19 years to come to Espana, I wanted to do it immediately, if not sooner!
And so began our quest to relocate, lock stock and several smoking barrels to sunny Spain, but where to go? Much as we loved the villa in Turre, it was a very expat community. Not that I don,t love the company of my fellow countrymen, but I wanted to live in Espana, not Blighty with sun.
We spent a long time researching various areas, initially we liked the desert scenery of Almeria, but Ali happened upon a region that neither of us had come across before, the Alpujarras. Wildlife, coast and mountains, fabulous air quality, it sounded like heaven, so we decided to dip our toes in the water.
