Eleven guitarrists from 9 different countries for Andrés Segovia Competition
Tuesday, 11 November 2008
Eleven guitarrists have entered the internationally famous classic guitar competition which is held annually on the Costa Tropical, specifically in La Herradura. This XXIV edition of the event is scheduled to take place in the village's Civic Centre from the 17th to the 22nd of November inclusive. The competition traditionally includes performers who are less than 35  years of age, to honour the memory of the famous guitarist, Andrés Segovia.

Homage to Vicente Asensio (Valencia 1908 – 1979)

This year’s competition will pay homage to the composer and musician Vicente Asensio, marking the hundred year anniversary of his birth. In fact, each of the competitors is required to perform his work ‘Collectici Intim’ in the first heat of the competition, held on the 17th of November.
Of the more than 35,000 Euros committed to the competition, over half of this is prize money, with first place winner receiving 9,000 Euros, as well as a guitar (valued at 7,500 Euros) produced by world renowned Francisco Santiago Marín.
Each year, the standard of performers has been truly impressive. The nightly concerts during November 2008 in La Herradura should see no exception.
