Christmas Day known as Navidad in Spain, is traditionally a family day. However in recent years instead of entertaining at home the Spanish now enjoy eating out in the many resturants and bars and are opening in response to the increased demand. Menus are published well in advance of the day and booking in advance is well advised to avoid disappoinment of not getting a table at your favourite place. Though the main present giving event still takes place on the evening in 5th January in line with the long tradition of Epiphany and the Day of the Kings, children are increasingly recognising the advantages of also having an alliegance to Santa Claus, in the form of two lots of presents, much to the chagrin and finanial impact to their parents.
