Costa Tropical Event Calendar - Immaculate Conception
Wednesday, December 8 2010
For many, this Roman Catholic feast day representing the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is the start of the Christmas season. The Nativity of Mary, nine months later on 8th September, is celebrated by many Spanish towns and villages, with many of the wine harvest festivals centred around this date. These dates are often confused with the 'Incarnation of Christ' also known as 'The Annunciation' celebrated on 25th March which is representative of the time when the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. The Nativity or the birth of Christ is then celebrated nine months later on Christmas day, 25th December.
