Constitution Day, (Dia de la Constitución) another holiday in the civic rather than the religious calendar. Following the death of Franco in 1975 a 7 member panel was chosen to represent the Spanish Parliament. Known as the 'Padres de la Constitución', (Fathers of the Constitution) they offered their newly drafted constitution for approval by the Spanish people in a referedum held on 6th December 1978 and it has been a public holiday since that date.
