Celebration of the Festival of the May Crosses (Cruces de Mayo) with the decoration of plazas, balconies, pavements and railings with eye-catching floral displays. The decorated "crosses" become focal points of dancing, singing and general merrymaking. Festivities are held throughout the region and can last a number of days. Often children will decorate crosses and beg on street corners very much like children do in England with their 'penny for the guy' tradition. Adults will open their houses and garages as makeshift bars selling drink and tapas the proceeds of which go to local charities.
